Welcome to S&N Genealogy's News and Information Feeds

Our feeds are designed to give you daily news and information relating to genealogy and family history. We also have a feed that updates when a new article is added, although this is unlikely to be daily. You can view these web feeds using the links at the bottom of the page, and you are welcome to put them onto your website.

Information on Feeds and XML

  • What is a feed? - A web feed is a data format used for serving users frequently updated content. These feeds are usually used by news companies (the BBC for example) to give the most recent news. You can view these feeds using a feed reader or aggregator. These feeds are usually in XML format.
  • What is XML? - XML stands for Extensible Markup Language. It is a language that supports a wide variety of applications - formally defined languages based on XML (such as RSS) allows software (such as feed readers) to understand the information in this language. This page is in HTML format, which is all about the appearance of the page - XML is about the data, and the ability to sort and recognise the data.

Our Feeds

We offer a number of different feeds for you to view:

  • Items of the Day - these feeds change daily. Every day, four items are chosen as the 'Items of the Day', and the feed updates to the chosen items, replacing the old ones. There are five categories to choose from, each category will show items that relate to that subject.

  • News and Information by Date - this feed is updated every time a new news or information item is added. Note that this is unlikely to change every day.

You can put the feeds onto your website (there are many RSS Readers on the internet if you are not sure how to do this). A link to http://www.sandn.net/ would be appreciated, so other can find out about us.
